Screwed
That is what we will be if we ever get blockaded. The USA no longer has any facilities capable of mass producing steel, bullets, or many other items that we used to pump out on conveyor belts which we pioneered.
Yup, all of our steel now comes from foreign foundries. All of our bullets are made in China. Our kids are getting dumber, and are less able to use tools and do physical labor (compared to when we were their age), and our country is gearing towards 'service industries' instead of even pretending to hold onto our industrial roots.
This stems from many problems, but among them are environmentalism (killing our heavy industry which in turn cripples our ability to produce self sustainability and thus you loose a shit-ton of jobs), free trade agreements (allowing corporations to cross borders, and trade freely between their new production facilities in third world countries, and our stores here), and corrupt politicians who take money in return for bills which favor such corporations.
"I think all politicians should have to wear a suit like a NASCAR suit with the names of all the companies and people who they get money from." is what a co-worker of mine said recently. Yes, that may help us decide who to vote for. Perhaps also instituting term limits at every level of government, and getting rid of lifetime benefits.
But either way you look at it, there is corruption, greed and wrong doing at every level of government and corporate operations these days. Heck, the police are living up to their 'worlds only legalized organized crime syndicate'. Just the other week I witnessed a vehicle stop at an intersection, then continue to roll through that intersection from a dead stop, and slam into a building. The driver apparently dropped his cell phone and may have been texting, but no charges were laid. No tickets issued. Why? Rumor has it he was a off duty cop.
There are many reasons that educated young people have to be upset at the way things are. It is difficult to hide the corruption and wrong doing when it is all around us. So yes, I support the 99% of us, who are just trying to make an honest living and raise a family.
I can honestly see a revolution coming eventually, but it will be a long ugly road to get to that revolution, and I am sure many innocent people will be hurt of killed by the forces of greed and corruption before we see some change in this world. It will get worse before it gets better. Occupy is just the start, but it likely won't result in anything. Sadly the media, which is largely corrupted by politics and corporations, is mostly reporting negatively on the Occupy crowd, often only airing interviews with very poor public speakers, and trashing interviews with speakers who are actually able to push a point across.
But sadly Occupy wont last. We will see the police rise up against them eventually, and many will be incarcerated unjustly. The police state will grow larger and more powerful, edicts and executive orders are becoming more and more common. Can't pass a bill you want passed for your corporate friends in the senate? Just make it an executive order! Done.
We will see at least another 10 years of worsening conditions, maybe even 20 before things shape up. Likely a world war or two as well. But then what will there be left? We will have a young generation which is so stupid and braindead that they will be unable to do physical labor and properly raise their own off spring. We will have an aging generation of people who used to know physical labor, and the days before computers took over our lives. But they wont be able to change much.
Perhaps this is the end of humanity as we know it. Ah but who cares?
