I was gifted this wonderful game by my friend Dawson. Thanks man! What an amazing game.

Now, not much scares me. Things that probably should, don't. Which means that this game is pretty fun for me. Until I 'invest' a lot of game-money in equipment. Then I worry about losing the equipment when I die.

The following are some tips and tricks I have been working on to try to determine the ghost type, while lacking specific evidence. I am trying to list the Official Evidence in an order that seems to be from easiest to obtain, to hardest, for that specific ghost. The Personality is also being listed, so we can figure it out based on how it acts.

Freezing Temp Ghosts:


A Yurei is a Ghost that has returned to the physical world, usually for the purpose of revenge or hatred

Unique Strengths: Yurei’s have been known to have a stronger effect on people’s sanity.

Weaknesses: Smudging the Yurei’s room will cause it to not wander around the location for a long time.

Findings:Yurei's will cause you to go insane very quickly if you are near it. You don't even have to look at it. They are sometimes stubborn and refuse to write in the book, but that, and Orbs, along with freezing temps, is their main calling card. They are not shy, and seem to respond best when everyone is together with them. They like dirty water and throwing stuff.

Personality:Likes Everyone together

Official Evidence: Freezing Temps., Orbs, Ghost Writing.


A Mare is the source of all nightmares, making it most powerful in the dark.

Unique Strengths: A Mare will have an increased chance to attack in the dark.

Weaknesses: Turning the lights on around the Mare will lower it’s chance to attack.


Personality: ?

Official Evidence: Freezing Temperatures, Ghost Orb, Spirit Box.?


A phantom ghost can possess the living, and most commonly summoned through an Ouija Board. It also includes fear into those around it.

Unique Strengths: Looking at a Phantom will considerably drop your sanity.

Weaknesses: Taking a photo of the Phantom will make it temporarily disappear.

Findings: This ghost has a small orb which usually doesn't travel too much.

Personality: Likes everyone

Official Evidence: Freezing Temperatures, EMF Level 5, Ghost Orb is usually harder to see.


These ghosts are natural hunters who love to stalk it’s prey one at a time making its kill. Banshee will attack anything that comes in its way.

Unique Strengths: Will target one person at a time.

Weaknesses: Fears crucifix and will be less aggressive near one.

Findings: The Freezing Temperatures aren't always evident. This ghost roams a lot, and will leave fingerprints on doors and windows outside and away from it's room. Motion Tracking Suggested.

Personality: Likes to be alone.

Official Evidence: EMF level 5, Fingerprints, and Freezing Temperatures.


They are some of the most dangerous ghosts you will find. They are the only ghosts who can travel through walls and has the ability to fight.

Unique Strengths: They never touch the ground, so they can’t be tracked by footsteps.

Weaknesses: Wraiths have a toxic reaction to salt.

Findings: These quick ghosts are very dangerous, and spike to level 10 unpredictably and without much warning. While Salt is Toxic, it doesn't mean that they can't step in it. They sometimes do still step in Salt which can lead someone to mistake a Wraith for a Banshee. It is undetermined if the Toxic reaction, means that they are hurt by the Salt, or if it angers them and makes them more active. But being that it is listed officially as a Weakness, I would imagine that it hurts them and repels them somewhat. However a Phasmophobia discord moderation said the following: "Salt helps to antagonize the wraith, causing more ghost activity, which will eventually help you get more out of it."

Personality: Likes Everyone, Or Alone

Official Evidence: Freezing Temperature, Fingerprints (usually higher or on Windows), Spirit Box.

Non-Freezing Temp Ghosts:


These are the most common ghosts you will come across but still they are powerful and dangerous. You can usually discover them at one of their hunting grounds after an unexplained death.

Unique Strengths: Nothing

Weaknesses: Smudge Sticks to stop it from attacking for a long period of time.

Findings: Might be tasked with Smudging this one. It will throw items when alone.

Personality: Stubborn, likes to be alone.

Official Evidence: Fingerprints, Ghost Writing, Spirit Box (must be alone).


The most famous ghost Poltergeist known to be a noisemaker by manipulating objects around them to instill fear among its victims.

Unique Strengths: Throw a huge amount of objects at once.

Weaknesses: Ineffective in an empty room as there will no objects to toss around.

Findings: Will be a noisy ghost, and will often cause sound sensors to spike. Items strewn about the room. If the room doesn't have items in it, it may be more difficult to track. The temperatures in the room aren't always lower.

Personality: Prefers alone.

Official Evidence: Fingerprints, Spirit Box, Ghost Orb


A Jinn is territorial Ghost that will attack when threatened. It has also been known to be able to travel at significant speed.

Unique Strengths: A Jinn will travel at a faster speed if it’s victim is far away.

Weaknesses: Turning off the locations power source will prevent the Jinn from using it’s ability

Findings: The Jinn has been very tough to find. Noticed no lower Temps at all.

Personality: Likes Everyone
Official Evidence: Spirit Box, Ghost Orb, EMF Level 5 ?


They are slow but violent ghosts that will attack everyone indiscriminately. They also travel at a greater speed like Jinn while hunting.

Unique Strengths: Travels faster while hunting.

Weaknesses: If you are hidden from the Revenant, their speed drops, and they travel slowly.

Findings: Revenant's will prefer to be alone. They stand around often, unless they are attacking. They move from room to room slowly otherwise. Must provoke alone to get the EMF 5+ reading. May be requested to Smudge

Personality: Prefer to be alone.

Official Evidence: Fingerprints, Ghost Writing, EMF level 5 when provoked alone.


Oni’s are the cousin of demons and are extremely strong. They will become more active if you wander around them for too long.

Unique Strengths: More active when players are nearby or when objects move at great speed.

Weaknesses: Being more active helps players to easily identify the Oni.

Findings: Oni's tend to like Dirty Water. They also like to communicate alone. Gets mad when too much noise and people around. They will throw things. They also tend to make the air colder than normal, but not freezing. They also might be able to be prevented by Crucifix, and may talk by a Ouiji Board

Personality: Likes to communicate alone.

Official Evidence: EMF level 5, Spirit Box, and Ghost Writing (must be alone).


A Shade is known to be a Shy Ghost. There is evidence that a Shade will stop all paranormal activity if there are multiple people nearby.

Unique Strengths: Being shy means the Ghost will be harder to find

Weaknesses: The Ghost will not enter hunting mode if there is multiple people nearby.

Findings: Shades will have ghost orbs when no one is around, and Ghost Writing. They will be active when fewer people are near them. They may cause EMF5+ but only seem to do it if alone or very mad. They will not leave fingerprints, and will get close to freezing, but never freeze. They are shy ghosts and usually go away in lit areas, or when other people show up. They will not cause Spirit Box voices. They will get mad when you remove the power source.

Personality: Is Shy, and prefers to be alone or with only one person. Tho can sometimes be enticed and annoyed by many people.

Official Evidence: Orbs, Ghost Writing and EMF5+

If you have the following pieces of evidence, you will need to search for the following forms of evidence to find your answer.

Fingerprints, Ghost Writing = EMF 5+, or Spirit Box

Fingerprints, Spirit Box = Freezing Temps, Ghost Orbs, or Ghost Writing
Freezing Temps, Ghost Orbs = Ghost Writing, Spirit Box, and EMF 5+
Freezing Temps, Ghost Writing = Ghost Orbs, or Spirit Box
Freezing Temps, and EMF 5+ = Ghost Orbs, or Fingerprints
Ghost Writing and EMF 5+ = Ghost Orbs, Spirit Box or Fingerprints
